Job Description

Make a significant impact in the lives of visually impaired students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist in the vibrant Savannah area. This rewarding contract opportunity spans the academic year, presenting the chance to work closely with students from 2nd grade through high school across multiple school sites. The contract offers full-time hours and the flexibility to design a schedule that fits both your preferences and each student's IEP requirements.


Key Qualifications:

  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) through AVCREP
  • Current GaPSC Teaching Certificate required
  • Experience working with blind or visually impaired students, ideally across a range of grade levels
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with school teams, students, and families
  • A commitment to student-centered approaches and best practices within O&M
Role Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments, from elementary through high school
  • Independently organize and travel to various school sites as needed
  • Complete O&M assessments, develop individualized instructional plans, and contribute to the IEP process for each student
  • Collaborate with special education staff, teachers, and families to support student growth and independence
  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in compliance with school and state requirements
